Some sessions stay with me, and this is absolutely one of them.
This evening was just a mama and her little girl wandering through the mountains in Park City. Nothing overly planned or complicated just time to play, pick flowers, snuggle, and document a little glimpse of the world the two of them share.
One of my favorite parts of their session was hearing this sweet mama speak Spanish with her daughter. I’ve been working on my own Spanish, so naturally I loved that little connection, but it was also so special to witness.
It felt like one of those small, everyday pieces of their relationship that may not seem significant right now, but will mean everything someday.
A Glimpse Into Their World
We let her daughter lead the way for most of the evening. She explored, picked flowers, reached for her mama, and curled into her whenever she needed a quiet moment.
There was no pressure to perform or smile at the camera the entire time. They just got to be together, and I got to notice everything happening in between.
That’s what I love so much about photographing motherhood.
Of course I want to create beautiful photographs, but I also want to preserve the things that are so easy to overlook while you’re living them—the hand reaching for yours, the weight of your child against your hip, the way they look at you, and the tiny things the two of you do without even thinking about them.
You Deserve to Be in the Memories Too
Moms are so often the ones taking the photos. You probably have thousands of your child, but far fewer that show your relationship from the outside.
A motherhood session doesn’t need to celebrate a new baby or a big milestone. Wanting to remember who your child is right now and who the two of you are together is reason enough.
The Park City mountains and golden evening light were beautiful, but the bond between these two is what made me love this session so much.
It felt playful, soft, and completely theirs.
